During a recent visit at DFKI Saarbrücken, Saarland’s Minister Jürgen Barke from the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Innovation, Digitalization, and Energy of Saarland and Hessen’s Minister for Digitalization and Innovation Prof. Dr. Kristina Sinemus discussed the opportunities and challenges of deploying AI in public services. During this visit, Philipp Slusallek, founding director of CERTAIN, Christian Müller and Manuela Schuler contributed to the dialogue by conveying our message that AI can only truly serve society if human oversight and trustworthiness are embedded from the start. Aspects such as explainability, robustness, and ethical alignment require deliberate design and rigorous implementation. CERTAIN is committed to supporting this process through research, frameworks, and practical solutions.
